There is no trail-you simply hike down the canyon, which is so narrow you can touch both walls in some spots. We turned left at the juncture and headed up the narrow canyon. We loved it. To add to the heat the terrain becomes very sandy making the progress much slower. You have to continue to the end. It is important to get here relatively early in the day to acquire one of the few first-come, first-served campsites. There is a small brown flag (a stick) with an arrow on it showing the way but the actual trail was located about 20’ to the left and then turned back towards the flag. Use existing campsites at least 200 feet from a water source. It is short; only about half mile long. Both mounds of sand have some established camping areas on top of them but there is no signage. Definite canyoneering and good repelling skills are needed for this slot canyon. Don’t go here if you’re claustrophobic at all. No specific skills are needed for this canyon. From the confluence campground, it is a relatively short hike to the actual confluence of the two canyons. Once in the hole, the path ahead is completed by crouching underneath the edge of the much larger boulder that has been blocking the path and is a part of the sandy path’s 20’ drop. There is one tricky part on the trail inside the canyon where there is a steep drop. The day-use fee is $6.00 per person and $6.00 per dog. Two of the best campsites are located just above the confluence of Buckskin Gulch and Paria Canyon. Bats, birds, and insects of all kinds make this a surprisingly noisy campsite. The sand bar on the left side of the creek bed is really the best indicator of the trail. As Buckskin Gulch begins to once again narrow it reaches the confluence. Forget bringing the pet(s) into the monument area. This would be very easy to miss so make sure you have your eyes peeled when approaching White House rock. At 15 miles long it is the longest slot canyon in the world. We had a great time in the Lower Antelope slot canyon back in 2006 when we first experienced the canyon.
